From a dream to Riva.
My name is Rishneet Chand, and I am the founder of Riva Barbers. I was born and raised in Fiji, and I am proud to be Indo-Fijian — a Fijian Indian.
My journey in barbering started when I was just 16 years old. What began as an interest in cutting hair slowly became a passion, then a career, and eventually the foundation of my own business.
Growing up in Fiji taught me something that I still carry with me today — hard work, respect, humility and perseverance. I learned that dreams do not simply happen. You have to work for them, believe in yourself and keep moving forward even when things become difficult.
I spent years learning the craft, improving my techniques and building experience one haircut at a time. Long days, early mornings and countless hours behind the chair became part of the journey.
Over the years, barbering became more than cutting hair. I realised that every person who sits in my chair is trusting me with more than their haircut. They are trusting me to help them look better, feel better and walk out with confidence.

Moving from Fiji to New Zealand was another chapter in my journey. Starting in a new country was not always easy, but I saw it as another opportunity to learn, grow and build something meaningful.
Eventually, I wanted to create a barber shop that reflected everything I had learned — a place where people could receive quality barbering, feel welcome and leave feeling confident.
